The Animated Addams Family Movie Has Its Cast

The Addams Family is finally returning to theaters, only instead of being live action again, the creepy and kooky characters will star in an animated movie, harkening back to their New Yorker roots. Late last year, it was reported that Oscar Isaac was being eyed to voice Gomez in the new Addams Family movie. Now the full cast has been unveiled, and not only is Isaac confirmed to be voicing Gomez, we've learned his co-stars will include Charlize Theron, Allison Janney, Bette Midler, Chlo Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard and Nick Kroll.

Charlize Theron will be voicing the love of Gomez's life, Morticia. This will be Theron's third time starring in an animated movie, previously lending her vocal talents to Astro Boy and Kubo and the Two Strings. Taking on the role of Grandmama will be Broadway star and Oscar nominee Bette Midler, who voiced Georgette in 1988's Oliver & Company.

Bringing life to Wednesday and Puglsey, Gomez and Morticia's children, in The Addams Family will be Chlo Grace Moretz and Finn Wolfhard, respectively. Moretz has plenty of voice credits on her acting resume, including Bolt and My Friends Tigger & Pooh. While The Addams Family will mark Wolfhard's first major movie voice role, he's currently best known for starring in Stranger Things and IT, and he'll also voice one of the main characters in Netflix's upcoming Carmen Sandiego animated series.

That leaves Nick Kroll, a man who has starred in animated projects like Sausage Party, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie and Big Mouth, to play Uncle Fester. There's no word yet on who will voice Lurch, although since he's a butler of few words, it's not like you need a major actor to play him (although it would be funny if an A-lister was brought in to recite what little dialogue he has). As for Allison Janney, she will be voicing the movie's main villain, Margaux Needler, a crafty reality TV show host. Janney's voice credits include Finding Nemo, Over the Hedge, Mr. Peabody & Sherman and Minions.

Along with revealing the full Addams Family cast, MGM also released the first image of how these characters will appear in animated form, and sure enough, they're delightfully mysterious and spooky.

While this movie won't be the first time that The Addams Family has been translated for animation, it can be argued that the public knows this property best from its live action offerings, be it on the big screen, on TV or as a stage show. Earlier in the decade, there were plans to make a stop-motion Addams Family movie, but those plans fell through, and now they're going the CGI route. Aside from the Family facing off against Margaux Needler, the only plot-related information that's been revealed is that the main characters will be preparing for their extended family to arrive for a major celebration.

Directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, The Addams Family animated movie will scare its way into theaters on October 11, 2019, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates. Aquaman's Trident Could Have Looked Very Different

In the final trailer for Aquaman, Arthur Curry tells Vulko that he already has a trident (technically a quindent), to which Willem Dafoe's Vulko responds "Not like this one you don't." King Atlan's trident serves as the MacGuffin in the film, driving the plot and Arthur Curry's journey, so it has to look cool. And while the legendary weapon does not disappoint, it actually could have looked very different. Check it out:

By the looks of things, Aquaman could have gone in a drastically different direction for the titular hero's weapon. As you can see from Mikhail Villareal's Twitter account, Aquaman conceptual designer Christian Scheurer was going for a trident with much longer points than the one that ultimately appears in the film. It also has more of a jagged look to it, like it was carved from diamond, with hard edges and sharp angles.

There are a couple of different designs in this tweet and it looks like they even considered going with a five-pointed weapon that almost has a medieval look to it, almost like something you would find in a fantasy video game. That one looks less like a standard weapon and more like a torture device.

The other obvious thing is that all of these designs show a weapon that is silver or dark grey in color. They're not dissimilar to Aquaman's mother's quindent, which he used in Justice League and in part of this film before it is broken in a battle with his brother.

Overall, these designs seem like very gritty-looking versions of King Atlan's trident, with a less flashy color and more of a dangerous and imposing aesthetic. Frankly, they look like they would have fit perfectly in a Zack Snyder-directed version of Aquaman.

These trident designs are all in stark contrast to King Atlan's trident in the final film, which is smooth, gold and gleaming, with shorter points and a more traditional look. Personally, I think the one used in the film works better for the story James Wan was telling. These concept designs show a trident that looks more for waging war than uniting the seven kingdoms as is its purpose.

The golden trident of King Atlan also has more of a regal look to it, befitting a king and being more of a match for the fun tone of Aquaman and the classic Aquaman costume Jason Momoa's character gets in the third act. The only bummer is that the costume and King Atlan's trident were shown in the trailer and thus they weren't a pleasant surprise we could geek out over in theaters.

I don't think it was the trident design, but whatever it was, audiences have been booking quite a few tickets to Atlantis since Aquaman splashed into theaters. James Wan's film is a smash success, the DCEU's biggest, and could very well be joining the $1 billion club at the box office.

We Toured Ireland's Incredible Star Wars: The Last Jedi Locations, See What We Saw

Star Wars tourism has been a big industry ever since George Lucas first transported audiences to a time long ago in a galaxy far, far away. Like many modern blockbusters, the original sci-fi trilogy utilized shooting locations all over the globe to create otherworldly landscapes, cities and planets, and a lasting effect has been fans traveling thousands of miles from their homes to visit the specific spots themselves. For years the concept has brought people to places like Tunisian desert (where Tatooine was first created), Finse, Norway (Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back), and Tikal National Park in Guatemala (Yavin 4 in A New Hope), but now Ireland is ready to become the next big hot spot.

For the creation of the planet Ahch-To in both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson brought their respective productions to the island nation, and utilized the breathtaking sites to create the stunning, isolated home of the legendary Luke Skywalker. It was an incredible choice, as locations like Skellig Michael and the Dingle Peninsula offer up an endless bounty of awe and amazement -- and I can say that with real authority because I had the chance to experience them first-hand last month.

In celebration of Star Wars: The Last Jedi's arrival on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital HD, I joined a small group of other reporters traveling to Ireland back in mid-March, and during a week-long trip dove headfirst into the world of Star Wars. From celebrating St. Patrick's Day with Mark Hamill, to visiting the site of the green milk-spewing Sea Cow, it was an unforgettable experience, and - thanks to lasting memories and a 360 degree camera - one that I will take you back to below and across the next few pages.

St. Patrick's Day In DublinThere admittedly isn't inherently anything that directly links the histories of Star Wars and St. Patrick's Day, but it does make for a wonderfully splashy start for this story. With the home video release of The Last Jedi scheduled for March, the timing for the trip happened to line up perfectly with the famous Irish holiday, allowing the press group to spend our first full day in the city of Dublin enjoying the raucous festivities. Of course, it should also be noted that the celebration did have an important link this year to the beloved sci-fi saga, as Mark Hamill was honored as the Grand Marshal of the annual parade.

Sitting in the media tent on O'Connell Street Lower (straight-up freezing - admittedly due to personal failure to properly pack for the trip), I had the exceptional experience of actually watching Dublin's St. Patrick's Day Parade, and captured a great deal of it using our 360 camera. At the start of the video above you can watch Mark Hamill's arrival to the event, sitting in the backseat of an old fashioned car and getting the crowd riled up, but stick around for some of the weird, wild and fun floats and performances that proved equally entertaining.

And as if those proceedings weren't exciting enough, later in the afternoon I had the chance to sit down one-one-one with Mark Hamill -- discussing his performance capture role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, his perspective on the future of the franchise, and why Rian Johnson's subversion of fans' expectations was so important.

A Boat Trip To Skellig MichaelEscorted by the company Vagabond Tours, the Sunday after St. Patrick's Day was dedicated to travel, as a five hour drive was required to get from Dublin to County Kerry on the other side of the country. While the length of the journey inspired trepidation when first getting into the van, fun conversation as well as striking vistas helped it pass -- with the bonus of an incredibly rare snowfall making things extra beautiful. There was also our intense collective excitement for what would be our first destination in the region: a trip to the village of Portmagee for a boat ride to Skellig Michael.

In the making of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams chose the island Skellig Michael as the shooting location for Ahch-To -- the remote planet where Luke Skywalker lives after going into self-imposed isolation. After traveling there, it's incredibly easy to see why. Not only does it have a rich natural history with similar themes, as monks retreated from society there in between the 6th-8th centuries, but the sites are absolutely stunning. You truly feel a million lightyears away from everything, and the natural rock formations are incredible.

Because landing tours only go out between mid-May and early October due to weather and hiking conditions, we sadly didn't actually get to land on Skellig Michael -- but the trip was no less satisfying. As you can see in the video above, it is remarkable just sailing around the island and its smaller sibling, Little Skellig, witnessing the majesty of the nature as well as the various birds and animals that call it home.

Touring The Beehive HutsOur boat couldn't land on Skellig Michael, but one of the nice bonuses of the trip is that we still had the chance to have a first-hand experience with one of the location's many aesthetic wonders: the Beehive Huts. The day after the boat ride, Vagabond Tours took us up to the Dingle Peninsula to a location called Hold a Baby Lamb And Beehive Huts -- and you can probably take a pretty accurate guess at what we did there.

After first playing around and feeding a herd of incredibly cute baby lambs, I brought the 360 camera out for an investigation of the many Beehive Huts scattered all over the property. As you can see, a few of them were incomplete -- specifically missing roofs -- but it didn't make their construction any less impressive. They were built in various sizes, some with multiple rooms, and it was amazing to see the intricacy of the stone stacking up close.

All that said, I walked away not exactly envying Luke Skywalker's living conditions on Ahch-To. As cool as they are, they aren't exactly spacious, and certainly not built for the comforts of modern living. And while we happened to visit the location on a particularly beautiful day (very different from the snowy conditions a few days earlier), it's hard to imagine the huts being warm during the coldest days of the year.

Visiting The Sea CowLocated on the Dingle Peninsula, the Beehive Huts were just a short drive away from our next stop: Dunmore Head off Slea Head Drive, the westernmost tip of mainland Ireland. It took a small hike to get there, parking next to Slea Head Beach and traversing a bit of hilly grassland, but it was worth it to get to two fantastic Star Wars: The Last Jedi shooting locations. It was here where the production filmed the sequence with the giant Sea Cow that Luke Skywalker used to get milk, as well as the shot of his crashed X-Wing below the waves.

The location was instantly recognizable - as I had just re- watched Star Wars: The Last Jedi before my flight to Ireland -- but the trip there was enhanced by the presence of Mike O'Shea, the man who oversaw all safety and logistics for the production during shooting on the Dingle Peninsula and the Skellig Islands. As you can see in the video above, I had the chance to talk with him one-on-one on camera, and he had some fantastic stories about his experience with the production.

It was a stunning final shooting location visit during my trip to Ireland, and a wonderful cap to an extraordinary trip. I'm far from the first to make the journey, as many Star Wars fans from all around the world have already made similar pilgrimages -- but it's just the start of what will surely become a fantastic tradition. It's a place that will now forever be cemented in the great lore of the legendary sci-fi saga, and I personally already can't wait to go back.

The new Halloween, by virtue of its name, is mostly focused on the holiday that sees kids dress up in costumes looking for candy. However, one of the characters, Judy Greer's Karen, seems to be celebrating a different holiday, as we see her wearing a traditional Christmas sweater throughout much of the movie. While never specifically referenced in the film, it seems that Karen's upbringing as the daughter of Laurie Strode has led her to hate Halloween, and as such she starts celebrating Christmas a little early. There's that little sign of rebellion. On Halloween, she wears a Christmas sweater so that she doesn't celebrate.

The new Halloween takes place 40 years after the original film and sees that Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode has never truly gotten over the events of the original film. She has trained herself to fight in case Michael Myers ever comes back and she has also trained her daughter Karen to do the same, something Karen never truly accepted. One assumes that the anniversary of the attack on Laurie was never an easy time in the Strode household. As Karen eventually rebelled against her mother and has become somewhat estranged, it makes sense that Karen just doesn't enjoy Halloween the way most of us do.

Judy Greer tells EW that the idea to have Karen skip Halloween entirely came from director David Gordon Green, but she embraced the idea whole-heartedly. While the movie never comes out and tells us why Karen is wearing a Christmas sweater, Judy Greer had a complete understanding of what's going on in Karen's head.

Like, as soon as the tiny little bite-sized candies come out in the drugstores for trick-or-treaters, she pulls out her Christmas sweater and is like, 'Nope, nope, I celebrate Christmas, I'm just skipping right to Christmas.'

It's a great little element that adds a bit of depth to the story. If you notice that Karen is wearing a Christmas sweater you might even be able to piece together in your own head why she might do that. Her rebellion against her mother and her feeling that there's nothing to fear is made clear, even if her specific hatred of Halloween is not.

It seems that the new Halloween is simply littered with little ideas like this one. Recently, Jamie Lee Curtis spoke about how she decided that, in one early scene, Laurie Strode would be drinking strawberry milk because it's the same thing she drank in the original Halloween, and Laurie Strode is still very much in the same mental apace as yer 17-year-old self. Again, the moment is never explained and attention isn't really brought to it, just like the Christmas sweater, but it all makes sense if you think about it.
