That Time Jason Voorhees Almost Had A Machine Gun In A Friday The 13th Sequel

Few horror movie villains have become more renowned than Jason Voorhees, and his use of a machete has become just as iconic as Freddy Krueger's glove or Michael Myers' kitchen knife. That said, Jason has been through some pretty wild adventures over the years, and it turns out that one of his movies almost had him carry a machine gun that he picked up off of a victim. In a recent interview, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives director Tom McLoughlin explained:

I turned [the initial treatment for Jason Lives] in, and it's pretty much verbatim exactly what the movie is, in terms of the characters, the scenes. The only thing that is different that I wrote and then realized, 'No, this is not a good idea', was when Jason kills the paintballer that has all the weapons and stuff that he takes, you know with the utility belt and the machete and all that stuff. Originally these were not paintballers, they were hunters out there, and this guy was Mr. Macho with all that stuff and he had an Uzi. So when Jason ripped his arm off and gets the machete, the next time we see him, in front of the motorhome, he's got an Uzi strapped to him.

I think it's safe to say that this would've been a decidedly different version of Jason Voorhees, compared to the typically stabby version that has long characterized the _Friday the 13th _franchise. On the other hand, it's also worth noting that Tom McLoughlin's remarks during his interview with Midnight's Edge do not specify that the legendary slasher would actually fire the gun. Regardless of that fact, Jason carrying an Uzi would've been a very odd sight to behold.

Looking back at the history of the Friday the 13th series, it's not that surprising to know that Jason was almost taken in this direction. The series has played fast and loose with his characterization over the years, even going so far as to cross him over with Freddy Krueger in Freddy vs. Jason and send him into space for the often-maligned Jason X. Considering all of the weird stuff that has happened to this monstrous killer, an Uzi doesn't seem all that crazy by comparison.

Jude Law Is Still Dodging Questions About Captain Marvel Role

The next big entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe feels closer than ever now that we've crossed the border into 2019, but there's still a lot we don't know about Captain Marvel, including the identity of the character being played by Jude Law. When the actor was originally cast it was believed he was playing Mar-Vell, the comic character that held the Captain Marvel moniker prior to Brie Larson's Carol Danvers. However, when recently asked if he was playing Captain Marvel, the actor insisted that wasn't the case. According to Law...

No, I'm not. Brie Larson is Captain Marvel.

Of course, immediately after saying this, Jude Law makes a joke that the "Marvel Police" might shoot him for saying that. On the one hand, he might be joking about the fact that the one thing we all know, that Brie Larson is playing Captain Marvel, is the sort of thing he could get in trouble for saying. Of course, if Jude Law were playing Mar-Vell, there's an argument to be made that he is, in fact, playing Captain Marvel, meaning this question is a bit dicier than it might appear.

The question came as part of an "autocomplete interview" with Wired where Jude Law, and his Vox Lux co-star Natalie Portman, answered questions that came up as part of Google autocomplete search results. This means that a not insignificant number of people have apparently searched for the question "Is Jude Law Captain Marvel?" Certainly, while Brie Larson may be playing the title role in the film, there are still enough people who are curious as to how Jude Law's character fits into the story to ask such a question.

While Jude Law may not be Captain Marvel, it does appear that he is playing Mar-Vell. A slideshow of images recently posted to a Disney website outed Law's character as Mar-Vell at one point. The title of the image has since been changed to call Law "Leader of the Starforce," so it appears Marvel still isn't quite ready to let the cat out of the bag.

Of course, other leaks and rumors have claimed that Law is playing a different role, Yon-Rogg is one potential character that Law might actually be playing, so at this point, it seems we really won't know for sure until the movie comes out and confirms what's going on.

What does seem likely is that the simple fact that Jude Law's role is being held back is important. It probably means that knowing who Jude Law is playing would reveal something about the movie they don't want us to know. If that's the case then maybe he isn't actually playing Mar-Vell after all, as that doesn't seem like much of a spoiler, but who knows?

Why Avengers: Infinity War Will Feel A Little Like Game Of Thrones, According To The Writers

The Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn't shied away from releasing ensemble-led movies, but Avengers: Infinity War is on another level entirely. With dozens of MCU characters returning and a handful of new characters being introduced, Infinity War is juggling a lot of players, and while that's great for the moviegoers who've read Marvel Comics for years and wanted to see this big a team-up realized on the big screen, it's nonetheless a daunting task including so many folks in the story. To that end, Infinity War writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus noted that the upcoming Marvel movie will feel a little like Game of Thrones, a show with one of the biggest TV casts of all time, in how it brings these MCU characters the closest they've ever been to one another. As the duo explained:

McFeely: One of the challenges we've had is, how do you make sure this is not 25 people moving from one scene to one scene to one scene? So we talk, being a little facetious about it, but we talk about how it's like Nashville [the movie], right? So you've got 4 or 5 different stories weaved together and then come together and then break apart. So, you get all these different pairings and groupings of 4 and 5 and 6.Markus: And even now, not unlike something like Game of Thrones, where you have this vast canvas with characters... you've been watching this guy over here molesting this girl over here in the East for years, and only now does it have that feeling of massive plates shifting and finally bringing these characters near each other.

Because Avengers: Infinity War boasts such a large cast, I get Stephen McFeely's comparison with the 1975 movie Nashville; it'd be almost impossible to ensure that all these characters are sharing scenes together, hence why it's necessary to split off into groups. As for the Game of Thrones comparison he mentioned to CinemaBlend and other outlets during a set visit last year, while the previous Avengers movies and Captain America: Civil War have previously brought people from different corners of the MCU together, it's never been done to this scale. Not only are the Guardians of the Galaxy finally interacting with their fellow heroes, but Thor and Hulk have been up to their own adventures since the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Doctor Strange finally gets to jump into the wider world of superheroes. There's no guarantee that every hero in Infinity War will get to meet one another, but at least the paths are overlapping.

Even though Avengers: Infinity War has been touted as Marvel's biggest movie yet, the giant ensemble fun doesn't stop there. Next year brings Avengers 4, which is no longer being considered the second half of the same story Infinity War is telling, but will still build off the events of the third Avengers movie. Avengers 4 shot back-to-back with Infinity War last year, so it was just as important to pull off the same kind of balancing act with the cast. While no Avengers 4 plot details have been released yet, ideally that movie will allow for different interactions and pairings from what we saw in Infinity War to spice things up a bit.
