How War Machine Is Dealing With The Aftermath Of Civil War When Infinity War Starts
Needless to say, there will be spoilers in this article, so stop reading now if you want to go into Avengers: Infinity War knowing nothing.
The last time we saw James "Rhodey" Rhodes (Don Cheadle) in a Marvel movie, the military hero was dealing with semi-paralysis caused by a mighty fall when Vision (Paul Bettany) blasted him out of the sky. The good news is that Rhodey lived, and the better news is that Cheadle will be able to get back into the War Machine suit for Avengers: Infinity War when the action kicks in in April. When CinemaBlend visited the set of Joe and Anthony Russo's blockbuster, we chatted with Cheadle, who was just starting his time on the set, and learned that his character has a lot to get past, thanks to Civil War. Said Cheadle:
You might see him suit back up again. Although that's a bit of a... that's gonna be a thing for him to put that suit back on. Last time he was in it, it didn't go so well. ... I think [the attack is] something that he's fighting to put behind him. But absolutely, it creeps up. There's innuendo. There are shots taken. There's things said. [I] don't want certain people behind me. I'm gonna keep an eye on everybody, and I wanna keep that jewel in front of me, not behind me. So yeah, I think he's, like I said, I think he's negotiating this reunion and his rejoining this team.
We do see War Machine flying over the shoulders of several stampeding Wakandan warriors in this fantastic shot from the conclusion of the Avengers: Infinity War trailer, so we know that Rhodey (Don Cheadle) will make his way to Africa and fight alongside Captain America, Black Widow and Hulk. We asked Cheadle if it will be weird for his character to work with Steve, being as how he was on Tony Stark's team in Civil War. But the actor elaborated:
Well I think, at the end of the day, that division was not something that was really fomented by the characters in the movie. There were outside pressures that created that division. And they ultimately want to be back together. So I think that Tony, who has yet to make an appearance... I imagine that he's understanding of it.
What's most interesting, however, is that there have not been any scenes in the trailers and commercials that have shown Tony and Steve together. Could it be possible that Iron Man and Captain America do not get to fight side-by-side when Thanos comes a'calling? That'd be a crime. The most recent trailer dropped, and we have it here for you:
